How do you disagree without destroying relationships, surrendering your convictions, or sacrificing someone else's freedom to choose? The Infinity Approach offers a different way to navigate difficult conversations, polarization, and disagreements. What if the problem isn't that we've chosen the wrong side—but that we're thinking about disagreement in the wrong dimension? Welcome to Adam-ondi-Answers. I'm Adam Rios, and today we're exploring a practical approach to disagreement inspired by the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. You don't have to be Latter-day Saint—or even religious—to put these principles into practice. Subscribe to Adam-ondi-Answers for discussions exploring faith, philosophy, history, difficult questions, and practical principles for living. In this episode, we examine three familiar responses to disagreement and the problems that arise when we take them too far. The Passivist embraces tolerance: live and let live. But when does respecting someone's freedom become an excuse for disengagement? The Purist stands for truth. But when does defending our convictions become an attempt to control someone else's choices? The Conformist listens to lived experience. But when does understanding another person's perspective become surrendering our own convictions? Drawing on philosophy, sociology, psychology, popular culture, Christianity, and Latter-day Saint theology, we'll explore a fourth possibility: the Infinity Approach. We'll consider how the restored gospel's understanding of divine agency offers a framework for influencing others while respecting their freedom. We'll also examine how Jesus Christ demonstrated different responses to disagreement without abandoning His governing purpose. Finally, I'll introduce three practical rules anyone can use in their next difficult discussion: 1. Agency: If we're not learning, we're losing. 2. Relationship: If I'm losing you, I'm losing the discussion. 3. Truth: I can learn you while remaining me. These principles also establish my personal covenant with you as I launch Adam-ondi-Answers. My goal isn't to eliminate disagreement. It's to explore how we can disagree productively, pursue truth, preserve relationships, and become people who inspire positive change. Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or someone trying to navigate a difficult relationship, you're welcome here. Get off the line. Ascend above it. Become an Inspirer. Become a Peacemaker. 0:00 Why Is Disagreement Dividing Us? 2:45 Three Popular Approaches to Change 3:28 Passivism: Live and Let Live 6:42 Purist: Stand for Truth 10:24 Conformity: Listen to Lived Experience 14:15 The Problem With the Number Line 15:00 Introducing the Infinity Approach 15:37 The Fruit Bowl: A Different Way to Influence 16:52 Becoming, Divine Agency, and the Restored Gospel 20:37 How Jesus Christ Approached Disagreement 20:21 Three Rules for Difficult Conversations 23:55 My Covenant With You 28:25 Like, Subscribe and support my channel Adam-ondi-Amen. #HowToDisagree #CommunicationSkills #latterdaysaint ‪@thoughtfulfaith2020‬ ‪@LetsTalk-HaydenCarroll‬ ‪@WARDRADIO‬ ‪@thestickofjoseph‬ ‪@AllThoseInFavor‬ ‪@missionarydiscussions1286‬ ‪@RESTORED_TRUTH‬ ‪@SaintsUnscripted‬ ‪@LatterDailySaints‬ @jasminerappshow CONNECT WITH ADAM-ONDI-ANSWERS Continue the conversation and explore more content about faith, philosophy, history and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
