The Athletics’ new Las Vegas ballpark is rising on the former Tropicana site, bringing an unusual construction project to the Strip. Estimated at roughly $2.1 billion, the enclosed stadium is designed for 33,000 fans and a 2028 opening. Five overlapping roof shells will rest on enormous steel arches spanning nearly 700 feet, with the highest point reaching 290 feet above the field. Construction involves assembling heavy truss sections on temporary supports before completing the roof and exterior. A giant cable-supported glass wall will frame views of the Strip, while an approximately 18,000-square-foot video board will dominate the interior. The design combines daylight, shading, and cooling delivered directly at spectators’ seats. Compact seating and minimal foul territory bring fans closer to baseball. The video also examines the Athletics’ departure from Oakland, public financing, and the remaining work required to turn the exposed structure into a functioning stadium ready for opening day.
