One of the country’s oldest cities and a former imperial capital, it felt completely different from the fast-paced cities I had visited before. Over three days, I explored the lively Muslim Quarter, visited the historic Great Mosque, cycled along the ancient City Wall, tried Xi’an’s famous local food, and took a cable car through the misty mountains of Huaqing Palace. I also found some of the city’s quieter, creative corners before continuing my journey to Beijing.
