In this short video, we will check out operations on Union Pacific's Limon Subdivision during this unusually busy day, with track warrants, and train meets!
The Union Pacific Limon Subdivision runs from Denver, CO to Sharon Springs, KS, being originally built by the Kansas Pacific Railroad in 1870, and one of the first railroads to reach Denver. Nowadays, the Limon Subdivision is pretty dormant, seeing an average of about 1 train a day. However, on July 31st, 2022, my buddy Hector and I struck gold, after driving along UP's Belt Line to see this coal train with 2 SD70AH-T4 locomotives, leaving North Yard, bound for the Limon Subdivision. One thing led to the next and we were chasing this guy to Limon. It met 2 westbound trains along the way, and empty oil can at Mesa, and an empty welded rail train at Limon. We chased the rail train back to Denver, which met another eastbound coal at Byers. A total of four trains in one day, not bad at all for the old KP!
