Learn Finnish grammar step by step! In this A1–A2 lesson, we explore **nominatiivi**, the nominative case, and practise using singular and plural forms in everyday sentences.
The singular nominative is usually the dictionary form of a noun or adjective, such as *talo* (house), *kirja* (book), and *pieni* (small). This lesson explains how to recognise these forms and use them in simple Finnish.
In this video, you will learn:
• How to identify a word’s basic form.
• How to name objects and describe people: *Tämä on kirja. Hän on opettaja.*
• How to recognise nominative subjects: *Lapsi nukkuu.*
• How to use adjectives: **pieni talo, uusi kirja**.
• How to form the nominative plural with **-t**, including changes in the word stem: **talot, kaupat, naiset, lapset**.
• How adjectives and verbs change with plural subjects: *Uudet kirjat ovat laukussa.*
• Why some sentence structures require a different case: *kaksi kirjaa* and **Pöydällä on kirjoja**.
• The difference between spoken and standard written Finnish: *Lapset nukkuu* and **Lapset nukkuvat**.
The lesson includes clear examples, illustrations, English explanations, exercises, answer keys, and a short homework task. Pause the video whenever you need time to practise, and read the examples aloud to build your confidence.
Keep practising at your own pace and try using Finnish in small everyday situations!
