Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 1 Review | Is It Really That Good?

I finally read Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 1 by Matt Dinniman, and I can confidently say it's the most fun I've had reading a book since I started getting into fantasy and sci-fi at 40. A guy in his underwear, his ex-girlfriend's cat, an alien apocalypse, and a massive dungeon filled with monsters, loot, leveling, and some of the most ridiculous humor I've encountered in a book. What's not to love? In this review, I talk about why Dungeon Crawler Carl worked so well for me, how it reminded me of playing Diablo II, the surprising amount of heart underneath all the chaos, and why I ended up giving it a 9/10. I also have one pretty significant criticism of the ending. The first part of this review is spoiler-free, followed by a clearly marked spoiler discussion where I get into Princess Donut, the dungeon AI, the bigger mysteries, and what left me wanting more.
