Egypt's Nile Valley and Delta contain most of the country's population and farmland. This film explores how water, desert climate, fertile soil and the history of settlement shaped that concentration, using real maps, satellite imagery and astronaut photographs. The 95% / under 3% figure is our reproducible calculation from the WorldPop 2020 UN-adjusted population grid, not a 2026 census or a measurement from night lights. We ranked valid grid cells by population density and accumulated their population and physical areas. Cells containing 95% of the modelled population cover about 2.91% of the grid's country area; 50% occupies about 0.40%. These cells need not form one continuous river corridor.
