Alright, the other of the gen 2 elder trio that they love to shove in almost every game, Teostra. My initial thoughts on this big cat was that he was very dull. That's it. His moveset felt almost too basic for what is essentially a lion that can command flames itself rather than just controlling it. In every game I've faced him in, he never impressed me, even in 4th gen where he has access to blast mode so he can switch on the fly (it just used moves he already had, but instead of setting flames everywhere, you just get blastblight. super exciting.) Just genuinely no redeeming qualities to him whatsoever.
But, that changes when we get to Frontier. When you change the hunt mode to Hardcore, you now get to fight what I think is the vastly superior version, Supremacy Teostra. Supremacy Monsters are guaranteed hardcore hunts where the difficulty is turned up to 11, their moveset almost entirely reworked to be more challenging, and they have access to some of the most devastating attacks that can very well one shot you if not careful. Supremacy Teostra, in particular, goes from just a basic fight with god awful AI, to an actually challenging contest of fast movement, big explosions, and very rewarding gameplay. I have no idea how anyone could see this and think the original fight is better.
In Wilds, Teostra appears to be more challenging from the fact he can fire off two Supernovas in a sequence (seriously why can he move after doing ONE??? Just to do ANOTHER one????????) but I'm very skeptical on how his fight will be handled. 5th gen is already a very easy to get into generation, and their rendition of Teostra was just the easiest version bar none, so Wilds has to do something akin to black magic to make Teostra enjoyable or he's just doomed to be bland forever in my eyes.
