Dark Industrial Ambient Jam on Hardware (Octatrack + Fieldtone Weaver + Zoia Euroburo)

This is a dark, slow-paced, pumping dark-ambient jam built on layered samples and heavy processing. I started by exploring different textures inside the Elektron Octatrack, and arrived to a bell-like sample on Track 6 and a bass on Track 7. I routed the layers through CUE into the Fieldtone Weaver, and the Weaver’s output then runs through the Empress Zoia Euroburo. Once I found a fragment in the Weaver that set the mood, I shaped the rest of the track around it. Inside Zoia, the Weaver signal goes through a tremolo, reverse delay, and ghost reverb. The reverb feeds into a compressor that uses the tremolo output for sidechaining; however, before recording I accidentally raised the threshold, so the sidechain didn’t trigger during the take. In parallel, I also run the tremolo into a tone shaper, remove most of the highs and mids, and blend that filtered layer back with the compressor output. The bass drum and snare sit on Tracks 1 and 2, heavily processed with LO-FI and more. The hi-hat on Track 4 is also processed and stereo-panned with a random LFO. Track 3 ended up unused—I start raising its volume at one point but then just abandon it. Track 5 is a thru-track carrying Zoia’s processed output. 6 and 7 are the same samples I used for sending to Weaver. At one point I increase the pitch on the bass as Weaver's volume increases to mix them better. Track 8 is the master track, where I applied strong compression and a touch of dark reverb to glue everything together. After recording the video, I mastered the audio in Ozone 9, adding a bit of sparkle and adjusting the overall loudness. Still lots to learn here and train my ear. It would also help if I didn't forget to press record on zoom so I had a nice 32bit recording of this :) Full gear list for indexing: Elektron Octatrack MKII Fieldtone Weaver Empress Zoia Euroburo Zoom LiveTrak L-6 Mixer
