Working of a single loop of wire rotating in a magnetic field of curved poles is explained with the help of a numerical example. When a load torque is applied which opposes the direction of rotation of the loop, the speed of the loop reduces and it works as a motor. Similarly, when a torque is applied in the direction of rotation of the loop, its speed increases and it starts working as a generator.
