k9s Tutorial for Beginners | Manage Kubernetes From Your Terminal
Still typing long kubectl commands and copying pod names? k9s is a terminal UI that lets you navigate, debug, and manage your Kubernetes clusters with a few keystrokes, and it updates live.
This is episode 1 of a series on the tools platform engineers use every day. We start with k9s, from installing it to switching clusters, debugging broken pods, and setting a different skin for each cluster.
🔧 What you'll learn
Installing k9s and launching it with zero setup
Navigating resources, filtering, and the shortcuts you'll use every day
Viewing logs, shelling into containers, port-forwarding, scaling, and restarting
Switching between clusters and namespaces
Troubleshooting with events, xray, and pulses
Customizing k9s with skins for each cluster, so prod never looks like dev
