I’m starting over in one of my flower beds! 🌿 I created this garden along our goat fence just last year, but after living with it for a season, I knew it wasn’t quite right. I’ve learned so much from designing other areas of the garden—especially the new kitchen flower bed—and I realized this border could be SO much better. So I’m ripping it apart and starting over! This time, I’ve drawn the entire garden plan to scale on graph paper and carefully selected plants that will give me beautiful color, texture and structure even when nothing is blooming. My goal is to combine evergreen, chartreuse, burgundy, icy blue and green foliage so the bed stays interesting throughout the seasons. I also want this garden to be as low maintenance as possible. As our gardens continue to grow, I’m realizing that every flower bed simply cannot demand constant attention! I’m keeping several plants already in the garden, including the Angelic Blue Juniper, Forever Goldy arborvitae, Ninebark, Little Hottie hydrangeas, Emerald Green arborvitae and some of my colorful smaller shrubs. Then I’m bringing in some beautiful new additions—including Quick Fire Fab, Pinky Winky and Spring Sizzle panicle hydrangeas. I specifically chose hydrangeas whose blooms transition into beautiful shades of pink so they’ll stand out against the green hillside later in the season. I’m also planning Kintzley’s Ghost honeysuckle growing on a wooden obelisk, Wine & Spirits weigela, Majesty Encore azaleas beneath the dappled willow, Double Play Candy Corn spirea, My Monet weigela, smaller loropetalum and possibly dianthus for that gorgeous icy blue foliage along the front of the border. But before we head outside and go through the new garden plan, I’m taking you inside the house to show you what I did with all of those hydrangeas and gomphrena we dried from the garden! I’ve been decorating with them throughout our home—from the front door to the dining room table—and I love being able to enjoy pieces of the summer garden indoors. Then we’ll head back outside, pull out the graph paper and walk through exactly what I’m planning for this completely redesigned flower bed. I can’t wait to see this garden come together! Let me know in the comments what you think of the new design and which plant combination you’re most excited to see. 🌸🌿 Thanks so much for watching and spending another day with us in the garden! 🤍 #gardendesign #flowerbeddesign #cottagegarden #design #gardening #Gardenplans #gardenplanning #garden
