According to Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the five elements theory holds that all things in the universe are subtly interconnected with the body's internal organs, emotions, and sounds. The five elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—correspond respectively to the five internal organs: the liver, heart, spleen, lungs, and kidneys, as well as the five emotions: anger, joy, worry, grief, and fear.
Music can also be classified into five musical tones—Jue (Wood), Zhi (Fire), Gong (Earth), Shang (Metal), and Yu (Water)—based on musical modes, rhythms, and timbres, with each tone corresponding to one of the five elements. According to this traditional approach, listening to specific types of music may help regulate the body's internal functions, harmonize the flow of Qi (vital energy), and promote emotional balance and well-being.
