Instagram:   / michelle_mana_   ‘Fusion’ in the ISST-D refers to ‘a point in time when two or more alternate identities experience themselves as joining together with a complete loss of subjective separateness‘. Speaking plainly, ‘fusion’ is what is normally meant by ‘integration’.Two or more alters combining and no longer seeing themselves as having separate identities. ‘Final’ or ‘complete’ fusion refers to when an individual with Dissociative Identity Disorder no longer perceives themself as having multiple identities. Final fusion means a person no longer has alters - they have one singular identity, with all relevant material from other parts incorporated into their own sense of self. As referenced above, however, this is not the end of ‘integration’ for this individual. While two previously separate alters may now see themselves as having one singular identity, they will now have to accept the materials both parts held. This may mean processing emotions locked away long ago, and dealing with newly exposed feelings of trauma relating to previously dissociated events. Fusion: Refers only to alters themselves merging or joining together ‘Final fusion’ is used in the ISST-D to refer to an individual fusing all separate identities into one… …However, often ‘final fusion’ is shortened to just ‘fusion’ by many members of the psychiatric and DID community. When used this way, the more general term ‘integration’ is usually used to refer to alters fusing instead, with ‘fusion’ (i.e. one identity, no alters) being the endpoint of this process.
