Just Friends

Mario T. 所 眞理雄 (vo), Yuichi Narita 成田祐一 (pf) A popular song written in 1931 by Sam M. Lewis (lyrics) and John Klenner (music). The lyrics say, “we’re no longer lovers—just friends,” and the melody sings cynically but cheerfully on a typical jazz chord progression. It has been sung by many artists including Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Helen Merrill, and Mel Torme, and has become a jazz standard. More recently, Michael Mayo has performed it in a lively 8-beat shuffle rhythm; it is included on his 2024 album "Fly". This time, I sang, starting with a ballad version and then moved to Michael Mayo’s upbeat, fun style. I hope you enjoy it. Recorded on October 1, 2026, at Velera. #mariot #yuichinarita #justfriends #sammlewis #johnklenner #michaelmayo #velera
