Camp Fimfo in New Braunfels, Texas was voted the #1 campground in America for 2026, but is it actually worth it for a retired couple with no kids? We paid well over $300 for two nights to test America's #1 campground as retirees, and quickly learned that #1 for families doesn't mean #1 for retirees.
In this honest walkthrough we show you our easy check-in, the free shuttle around this huge park, Ken riding the mile-long Alpine Coaster for $24 at up to 25 mph, the main activities area with pickleball, basketball, mini golf and the general store, the walkway to the Guadalupe River behind the water park, and what it's really like camping right next to Whitewater Amphitheater with live music until 11pm. We break down the true weekend cost - $600+ once you add the $140/day golf cart - plus the two pools, water park, RV sites, rental cabins, and cute A-frames by the river.
As the owners of Spoon Mountain Glamping in the Texas Hill Country, our 3-acre glamping resort, we stayed with operator eyes. We built Spoon Mountain Glamping from scratch and now host guests every week - book direct here:

. Our take: we rate Camp Fimfo 2.5 to 3 stars for retired couples who want quiet and nature to hike, but a solid 5 stars for families with kids or grandkids who want non-stop activities. If you want peaceful Hill Country, watch this before you book.
