The Last Train to the Inn is a Victorian sleep story set in Yorkshire, 1887. A woman stranded overnight at a countryside inn by a cancelled train finds a book in her room the exact book her dead sister had been searching for and discovers the previous guest signed the register with her sister's name 🚂
This is a slow, quiet story about the things we mean to do and do not do, and the unexpected detours that return them to us. No music. Just a voice. Perfect for deep sleep, insomnia relief, or anyone who has ever arrived somewhere they did not plan to be and found it was exactly where they needed to go.

🚂 ABOUT THIS STORY
─────────────────────────────────────────
Margaret Vane is fifty-four years old and on her way north for the first time in fifteen years. She has written the timetable on good card and underlined the connection times. She has, this time, replied to the invitation.
Then snow falls on the line at Ribbleton. The connection does not run. The stationmaster sends her to Fell Gate Inn, two minutes from the station, which keeps rooms and does a hot supper on weekday evenings.
The room is small and the fire is already lit and on the bedside table there is a book. Margaret recognises its not from reading it, but from a conversation in a garden in London, fifteen years ago, with her sister Eleanor. Eleanor had been looking for that book for years and never found it.
Margaret picks up the register. The previous guest, three nights ago, signed as E. Vane. Eleanor's initials. Eleanor's surname. Eleanor has been dead for four years.
The snow falls straight now. The fire is low. The inn is very quiet. And Margaret sits on the edge of the bed with the book in her hands, not yet opening it, simply holding it.
