Several Nigerian states are challenging the ownership structure of electricity distribution companies, arguing that they invested in DisCo assets before the 2013 power sector privatisation. A legal dispute involving the Federal Government and the Bureau of Public Enterprises has reopened questions over government-retained shares in distribution companies. Lagos State’s reported investment of about ₦18 billion in Eko DisCo, which translated into a five per cent stake, is among the issues shaping the debate.
