Whizzer - OpenRCT2

The Whizzer is a historic steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Originally opening in 1976 with the name Willard's Whizzer (after Marriott founder J. Willard Marriott), this classic coaster was manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf. Instead of a traditional chain lift, the ride uses an electric spiral lift system where each train features its own drive motor that connects to an electrified rail to climb the 70-foot helix. The track winds through a heavily wooded area and over water, offering a smooth, classic family-friendly ride experience. Whizzer was scheduled to close permanently on August 11, 2002, due to rising maintenance costs, but massive backlash and outcry from devoted park fans persuaded management to change course. The park ultimately reversed its decision, saved the Whizzer, and instead chose to demolish the unpopular ShockWave mega-looper to make room for Superman: Ultimate Flight.
