Views of Hastings including the ruins of Hastings Castle. Situated on the cliffs above Hastings, the castle on West Hill is 60-70m above sea level. The site gives clear views along the coast to the West towards Normans' Bay, Pevensey Bay, and to Beachy Head. The closest points in France are Boulogne-su-Mer at about 73km and Cap Blanc-Nez at about 80km. From the castle, only the very highest points at those locations are theoretically visible on very clear days. However, this vantage point does give excellent views of ships in the English Channel. The seafront amusements which also shows the crazy golf course where the annual world championships take place. Further on from the amusements are the remains of a once prosperous Hastings fishing fleet. The fish smoke houses can also be seen and the camera then pans onto the East Cliff lift. East Hill Cliff Railway, or East Hill Lift, is a funicular railway located in the English seaside town of Hastings. It provides access to Hastings Country Park via the East Hill, which overlooks the Old Town and Rock-a-Nore, an area to the east of Hastings. The line provides views over The Stade, home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe. The video finally shows Hastings Old Town. Hastings Old Town is an area in Hastings, England, roughly corresponding to the extent of the town prior to the nineteenth century. It lies mainly within the easternmost valley of the current town. The shingle beach known as The Stade (which is the old Saxon term meaning "landing place") Many events take place every year in the old town, including Jack In The Green and the Bonfire Procession. Many of these events are centred on Winkle Island, which is also the gathering place of the Winkle Club.
