Spring Trains at San Jose, Caltrain, Amtrak, ACE: The Month in Railfanning - March 2022

Hello all, and welcome to the March installment of The Month in Railfanning. Today, we're going to take a look at springtime trains in San Jose. We took advantage of the time change to catch some evening trains from Caltrain, Amtrak, and Altamont Corridor Express (ACE). Our month started out with a bang. On Thursday, March 10, a Caltrain struck a truck in San Bruno. Service was replaced with a temporary bus bridge between San Francisco and Millbrae. Our first catch of the month was three days later. We caught a southbound Caltrain at Diridon, then leapfrogged north to College Park to catch a southbound Capitol Corridor train. The next day, Caltrain announced a reduction in weekday service along the whole system. Baby Bullet service was suspended completely, and the overall number of trains decreased from 104 to 88. 5 days after, we made another trip to Diridon. Spring rains had started up, and we stayed in the station in between trains. We would catch two Capitol Corridors and a Caltrain on this visit. We got an opportunity to visit Diridon on a weekday on the 21st. We caught four Caltrain movements and an ACE deadhead over the course of 30 minutes. We close out the month with some pacing footage of a VTA two-car train southbound on the Blue Line in south San Jose. Thank you for watching!
