The date of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) is the First Sunday In November every year.
However, on the Saturday there is Concours (Note 1) for those taking part where the public can get in close and have a look. At the time of writing - this is sort of happening in Pall Mall on the Saturday and billed as the - “2026 St James Motoring Spectacle”. Check website for details. https://www.motoringspectacle.co.uk/
It ain’t what it used to be – this video is from 2007 when the LBVCR entrants used to “Cruise Regent Street” on the Saturday before Sunday’s run down to Brighton. It was great day out for us. Now they also showcase modern design classics and it has sort of lost a lot of its former character. The event is still lots of fun and free. London has lost a lot of the charm it once had – times change – and events like this make a delightful interlude to the endless demonstrations that seem to take over every Saturday.
We mustn't forget that events, like this rely, on sponsorship to cover the costs. I for one appreciate all those that have made it possible.
The video was recently recovered from a JVC GZ-MG36EK Camcorder, which records in Widescreen standard definition interlaced. The camcorder was retired years ago! I have de-interlaced the footage and upscaled it to HD, mainly to fit in with my video editing preferences and or to eventually upload to Youtube. The quality is what it is! Not good but almost bearable. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t have bothered because of the quality, but it is for me a happy reminder of those days.
Note1
Concours – a competition for the best prepared cars conforming to original design and mechanical features with a provenance dating from before 1905. (apology for the clumsy description, it sounds serious and for a very few it is, most just enjoy the day meeting up with others in my opinion).
