What can better data tell us about healthcare access for uninsured and undocumented patients in Ontario? 📊🏥 In their UC-ON capstone project, University of Toronto MHSc in Translational Research students Ayyah Elayan and Rukana Ragutharan are working with clinics that provide care to uninsured and undocumented patients across Ontario. These clinics provide important healthcare services, but information about patient needs, service use and the resources required to deliver care is often collected differently across sites—making it difficult to see the bigger picture. UC-ON aims to address this gap by creating a standardized, de-identified dataset across multiple clinics. By bringing existing data together, the team hopes to better understand patterns in healthcare use, barriers to accessing care, patient needs and the resources clinics require to provide services. The goal is to transform fragmented clinical data into actionable evidence that can support healthcare planning, resource allocation, research and evidence-informed funding and policy discussions. 🎥 Watch the UC-ON capstone defense to learn how Ayyah and Rukana are using data and translational research to build a clearer picture of uninsured healthcare in Ontario. 🔗 Learn more about the UC-ON capstone: https://trp.utoronto.ca/capstone-uc-on #TRPCapstone #TranslationalResearch #HealthData #HealthcareAccess #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #HealthcareResearch #UniversityOfToronto #MHSc #universityoftoronto #uoft #uoftmedicine
