They were there to cover a presidential visit. Within minutes, they found themselves covering history.
On September 11, 2001, local Sarasota journalists were inside Emma E. Booker Elementary School when President George W. Bush learned America was under attack.
Twenty-five years later, they still remember what the cameras couldn’t capture: the uncertainty, the silence, the questions and the weight of trying to report the biggest story of their lives while living through it themselves.
Now, as a generation grows up without firsthand memories of that day, those journalists are sharing their stories so people who weren’t there can understand not only what happened, but what it felt like to be there.
