Using Artificial Intelligence to improve Behavioural Research

Speakers: Professor Susan Michie (University College London), Dr Janna Hastings (Universities of St. Gallen and Zurich) and Emeritus Professor Robert West (University College London). This is the first of three BR-UK webinars on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the behavioural science space. The team demonstrated how AI can be used in behavioural research. They briefly outlined the stages of AI development so far and explained the difference between ‘Analytical AI’ (typically for reasoning and classification) and ‘Generative AI’ (typically for generating text and images). The team discussed the use of Generative AI in behavioural science and used a selection of AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Elicit and Scite) to illustrate their use in answering questions about behavioural science whilst highlighting the strengths and limitations of such tools.
