Contemptor Dreadnought is a Heresy-era pattern of armored walker used by the Space Marine Legions during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, predating most currently fielded Dreadnought variants. It was produced during the late Great Crusade and distributed across all twenty Legions before the Heresy began. The chassis incorporates an atomantic shielding system more sophisticated than anything found in the patterns that replaced it, generating a reactive field that dissipates incoming energy across the hull rather than simply absorbing it at a fixed point.
