Giant Puffballs - Foraging, Cooking and Tasting

Some friends of mine have a local orchard and one of them invited me to forage giant puffballs in part of their adjacent woodland. So let's take a look at this curious fungus, and cook some and eat it. Foraging books sometimes mention that this fungus can grow to such size that it has been mistaken for sheep, although tantalisingly, they never seem to cite who made that mistake. I suppose it is plausible - the largest recorded specimen was apparently 1.62 metres across.
