★ Own Ultimate TPS? A review on Fab takes a minute and genuinely helps: https://www.fab.com/listings/2e4c8751... A canvas is the level your players build their maps on - an island, a desert, a rooftop, anything you make. This video adds one from scratch: a level, three actors in it, one data asset, and it shows up in the menu by itself. ▶ Ultimate TPS on FAB: https://www.fab.com/listings/2e4c8751... ------------------------------------------- WHAT A CANVAS NEEDS ------------------------------------------- 1. A level with ground the player can build on 2. Four things placed in that level BP_MapPlayLoader, with its Buildable Registry assigned - without it no saved piece is ever built BP_MapSky - weather and the day / night cycle, nothing to assign on it A Post Process Volume with M_Highlight in it, set to Infinite Extent - this is the outline around a selected piece One Player Start, as a fallback for maps whose author placed no spawn pads 3. World Settings → GameMode Override set to a play Game Mode (BP_MainGameMode) 4. A Builder Canvas Asset (BCA_) in /Game/Misc with a Canvas Id, a name, the level and a thumbnail The menu finds the canvas by itself - no list to edit, no code. ------------------------------------------- TWO THINGS THAT BITE ------------------------------------------- The Canvas Id must never change once maps have been built on that canvas: a saved map stores that id and uses it to reopen the right level. Before packaging, add the level to Project Settings → Packaging → List of maps to include in a packaged build. The editor finds it either way, a packaged build does not. ------------------------------------------- SNOW ON YOUR CANVAS ------------------------------------------- For snowy weather to cover your landscape, it is necessary to give the landscape a material first. Then add BP_SnowMaterialTool to the scene and hit Play: the snow is added to the landscape and to every piece in the build palette. Once, not every time. ------------------------------------------- LINKS ------------------------------------------- Get Ultimate TPS on FAB: https://www.fab.com/listings/2e4c8751... All Ultimate TPS videos (playlist):    • Ultimate Third Person Shooter Template   Discord:   / discord   ------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE PROJECT ------------------------------------------- Ultimate TPS is a multiplayer third person shooter template: weapons, projectiles, ammo and buffs, lag compensation with server-side rewind, team deathmatch, and a full HUD. Adding a weapon or a pickup is done from Blueprints - no C++ needed. It also ships with Creative Mode: an in-game map builder. Place walls, floors, roofs, stairs and props, set the player starts, add weapon / ammo / buff spawners, pick the weather and the time of day - then play your map with a friend. The map is sent over the network when your friend joins, so nobody has to share files. Shown here on Unreal Engine 5.8. #UnrealEngine #UE5 #GameDev #ThirdPersonShooter #MapEditor #LevelDesign #IndieDev #FAB
