I gave up everything to buy a 45-year-old trimaran. Now I've discovered just how many holes there are to fill! Welcome back to Nowhere to Be, and Episode 2 of restoring Kraken, my 45-year-old Telstar 26 trimaran. In the first episode, I introduced you to Kraken and explained why I'd walked away from my old life to pursue something simpler, with more freedom and a bit of adventure. Now the real work begins. This time I'm preparing the boat and tackling some of the fibreglass repairs, including the holes left behind by the old instrument panel. There's sanding, resin, fibreglass, plenty of learning as I go, and a fair bit of laughter along the way. But this journey is about more than restoring an old boat. It's about slowing life down, learning practical skills, becoming more self-reliant and discovering what happens when you stop organising your entire existence around work, money and other people's expectations. And somewhere between mixing resin and laying fibreglass, we get into some of those bigger conversations. This is Part 1 of the fibreglass repairs. There's still plenty more to do, and I'm taking you along for the whole process, including the mistakes, the laughs and whatever else happens. If you're new here, I'm restoring Kraken while living a simpler outdoor life, travelling in my campervan, exploring nature, foraging and eventually learning to sail this old trimaran towards somewhere warmer. No pretending I've got it all figured out. We're learning as we go.
