From the layered spires of the Badlands to the granite peaks of the Black Hills, Painted South Dakota takes you through two hours of oil paintings, watercolors, and impressionist scenes capturing the landscapes and landmarks that define the state.
This episode of the Painted America series — one painting series, fifty states — travels through Custer State Park bison herds, the winding granite spires of Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, Spearfish Canyon, Jewel Cave, the historic streets of Deadwood, the pink quartzite of Sioux Falls, and the pioneer prairie of De Smet.
What you will see:
The Badlands at sunrise, moonrise, and in a sweeping sunset finale
Custer State Park bison and pronghorn, Needles Highway, and Sylvan Lake
Spearfish Canyon, Jewel Cave, and Roughlock Falls
Historic Deadwood and a weathered Black Hills ghost town
Falls Park in Sioux Falls and the pioneer homestead of De Smet
Open prairie, sunflower fields, and Bear Butte
Best enjoyed playing on a TV as living room art, as a calming background for reading or working, or anytime you want two hours of South Dakota's landscapes without leaving your couch.
Painted America is an ongoing project — new states added regularly until all 50 are complete. Subscribe so you never miss one.
