Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout is a 3D fighting game released for the PlayStation 1 in 1997. Developed by Bandai, it was the first Dragon Ball game to feature fully 3D character models, offering a fresh experience compared to previous 2D sprite-based Dragon Ball titles.
The game features a roster of characters from both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, including Goku (in multiple forms like Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 4), Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Cell, Frieza, and Baby Vegeta. A major highlight of the game is the inclusion of Super Saiyan 4 Goku, a rare appearance in Dragon Ball games at the time.
Gameplay-wise, Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout offers a simple combat system with basic punches, kicks, and powerful special moves like Kamehameha and Big Bang Attack. The game also includes a beam struggle mechanic, where players can clash energy attacks to determine the stronger fighter.
While the game’s 3D graphics and character models were impressive for its time, it received criticism for its slow-paced gameplay, stiff controls, and repetitive mechanics. However, for many Dragon Ball fans, the game remains a nostalgic classic, especially since it was one of the first Dragon Ball games to receive an official English release worldwide.
Due to renewed interest in the Dragon Ball franchise, the game was later re-released in 2004, making it accessible to a new generation of fans.
