Japanese People Who Fear and Revere the Gods of Nature Let me begin by showing a photo of the household shrine in my home. Many Japanese families have an impressive kamidana (神棚), but mine is arranged in a very simple form. Every year, I visit six shrines to obtain new ofuda (sacred talismans)(御札). ・・・・ For example, Japanese people revere both the great deities of the Yamato lineage (the victors) and the great deities of the Izumo lineage (the defeated). What is important is that the natural world that embraces both lineages is considered the most awe inspiring and fearsome of all. 2.
