Succoth Bible | Jacob at Succoth | Tell Deir Alla | Balaam Inscription | Biblical Geography | Bible History Malayalam Where was the Succoth mentioned in the Bible? Is the Succoth where Jacob settled the same place as the Succoth where the Israelites stopped after leaving Egypt? What does Tell Deir Alla have to do with Ancient Succoth, and why is the Balaam Inscription one of the most fascinating archaeological discoveries connected with the biblical world? In this video, we explore the history, geography and archaeology of Succoth, one of the important ancient places mentioned in the Bible. The Bible mentions two different places called Succoth. One was associated with the Exodus from Egypt, while the other was located east of the Jordan River and became associated with Jacob, Gideon, the Tribe of Gad, Solomon's bronze work and the Valley of Succoth. 📍 Succoth and Jacob After returning from the house of Laban and reconciling with Esau, Jacob settled at Succoth. Genesis 33:17 explains that Jacob built a house for himself and made booths for his livestock. This is connected with the Hebrew meaning of the name Succoth — "booths" or "shelters." 📍 Where was Ancient Succoth? We examine the geographical clues in the Bible and the proposed identification of Succoth with Tell Deir Alla, located east of the Jordan River and near the Jabbok River in modern Jordan. 📍 Succoth and Gideon During the period of the Judges, Gideon and Succoth became connected through Gideon's pursuit of the Midianite kings Zebah and Zalmunna. The story in Judges 8 reveals the importance of Succoth during this period of Israel's history. 📍 Succoth and Solomon The Bible also mentions the region of Succoth in connection with the production of the large bronze objects used for Solomon's Temple (1 Kings 7:46). This provides another important connection between Succoth and Ancient Israel. 📍 Tell Deir Alla Archaeology Archaeological excavations at Tell Deir Alla have revealed important remains from the biblical-period world. Among the most remarkable discoveries is the famous Balaam Inscription, an ancient text mentioning Balaam, a name also known from Numbers 22–24. 📍 The Two Succoths We also examine the other Succoth in the Bible — the place where the Israelites first stopped after leaving Egypt, mentioned in Exodus 12:37 and Exodus 13:20. Its exact identification is still debated, with Tell el-Maskhuta being one proposed location.
