Martha is often remembered as the busy sister, the distracted one, the one who missed the moment while Mary sat at Jesus’s feet. But in John 11:17–22, a very different Martha steps forward.
When Lazarus had died and grief filled the house, Martha heard that Jesus was coming. She did not stay inside with the mourners. She went out to meet Him. She ran to Him.
Her words to Jesus are honest and full of pain, yet they carry a depth of faith that is easy to overlook:
“Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
But even now, I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”
This is not shallow faith.
This is not distracted faith.
This is not second‑place faith.
This is “even now” faith — faith that speaks in the middle of loss, faith that holds on when hope seems gone, faith that trusts Jesus even when life has already broken.
A few verses later, Martha makes one of the clearest confessions in the New Testament:
“Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Maybe we have misjudged her.
Maybe Martha has more to teach us than we realised.
This video explores her story, her courage, and her remarkable trust in Jesus.
