On 27th January, I returned to Edinburgh with Lumo. Unit number was 803003 (before it became Trainbow in mid 2023) as the 1S91 0545 from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh calling at Stevenage (to pick-up only) then Newcastle, Morpeth and Edinburgh. Lumo and SE are the only AT300 operators to have DCO (Driver Controlled Operation) while all others have driver and guard operation where the driver opens the doors, although the guard closes them. DCO is where the driver opens/closes the doors but there is a member of staff onboard for revenue and customer service reasons. What I did not expect to hear during the journey was automated announcements from Neil Rudd, the same person who also does the announcements for Hull Trains and Transpennine Express services as most of the time, announcements onboard Lumo are manual from members of staff. 0:00 - London Kings Cross departure 4:12 - Finsbury Park 4:58 - Harringay 5:26 - Hornsey 6:01 - Alexandra Palace 6:58 - New Southgate 8:08 - Oakleigh Park 8:35 - New Barnet 9:20 - Hadley Wood 10:29 - Potters Bar 11:24 - Brookmans Park 12:09 - Welham Green 13:30 - Hatfield 15:38 - Welwyn Garden City 18:55 - Welwyn North 20:53 - Knebworth 21:18 - Approaching Stevenage (automated announcement by Neil Rudd) 23:50 - Stevenage arrival 24:07 - "This is Stevenage" 24:14 - "This is a Lumo service to Edinburgh Waverley" 24:23 - "The next stop for this service will be Newcastle" 24:51 - Stevenage departure 25:57 - "Welcome to this Lumo service to Edinburgh Waverley" 26:06 - "This service will be calling at Newcastle, Morpeth and Edinburgh Waverley" 26:16 - "The next stop will be Newcastle" 28:08 - Hitchin 30:40 - Arlesey 32:39 - Biggleswade 34:04 - Sandy 37:48 - St Neots 41:17 - Huntingdon 57:37 - Peterborough 1:12:52 - Grantham 1:20:17 - Newark Northgate 1:29:42 - Retford 1:39:27 - Doncaster 1:59:52 - Avoiding York 2:14:57 - Thirsk (featuring 185150 and 185121 departing as 1P62 from Saltburn to Manchester Airport ✈️) 2:18:42 - Northallerton 2:26:50 - Darlington 2:41:12 - Durham 2:45:07 - Chester-le-Street 2:48:42 - Approaching Newcastle (manual announcement by a member of Lumo staff) 2:51:25 - Crossing the King Edward VII Bridge over the River Tyne 2:56:05 - Newcastle arrival 2:56:18 - "This is Newcastle" 2:56:25 - "This is a Lumo service to Edinburgh Waverley" 2:56:34 - "The next stop for this service will be Morpeth" 2:58:23 - Newcastle departure 3:00:06 - Manors 3:06:20 - Cramlington 3:08:57 - Approaching Morpeth (automated announcement by Neil Rudd) 3:11:38 - Morpeth arrival 3:11:48 - "This is Morpeth" 3:11:55 - "This is a Lumo service to Edinburgh Waverley" 3:12:04 - "The next stop for this service will be Edinburgh Waverley" 3:12:32 - Morpeth departure 3:15:11 - Pegswood 3:17:53 - Widdrington 3:21:45 - Acklington 3:25:38 - Alnmouth 3:31:48 - Chathill 3:43:25 - Berwick-upon-Tweed 3:50:58 - Reston 4:03:03 - Dunbar 4:06:43 - East Linton (was under construction at the time and would reopen on 13th December 2023) 4:09:43 - Drem 4:12:12 - Longniddry 4:14:20 - Prestonpans 4:15:13 - Wallyford 4:16:47 - Musselburgh 4:20:37 - Approaching Edinburgh (automated announcement by Neil Rudd that turns into a manual announcement by a member of Lumo staff) 4:24:40 - Edinburgh arrival 4:24:51 - "This is Edinburgh Waverley, where this service terminates" 4:25:00 - "Before leaving the train, take a moment to check you have everything with you.
