Walter Koenig Dead at 90 | Star Trek’s Chekov Passes Away & George Takei Pays Tribute Walter Koenig, the actor who played Pavel Chekov on Star Trek, has passed away at 90, and the Star Trek family is mourning one of its most beloved members. He died on October 25 at his home in North Hollywood, and his longtime friend George Takei led the tributes with a deeply personal message. In this video, we look at how Takei remembered their nearly 60-year friendship, from meeting on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s to Koenig standing beside him as best man at his 2008 wedding. We also revisit Koenig’s life beyond Chekov as a writer and teacher, his role in Babylon 5, and the fans who loved him. With his passing, only William Shatner and George Takei remain from the original Star Trek cast, and this is how the galaxy says goodbye to a true legend.
