The forest beyond the village's threshold has long ceased to be a mere cluster of trees—it's now a living, pulsating nightmare, where shadows shift defying the laws of optics and the air is saturated with the cloying stench of rot and ozone. One has only to stumble and cross the edge of the thicket, and the silence becomes unbearably loud, filling with the wet squelching of hundreds of invisible limbs and the grinding sounds of creatures whose outlines resemble the distorted, elongated faces of forgotten sinners. Here, reality disintegrates into fragments: trees with bark of frozen flesh stretch their gnarled branches-fingers toward random travelers, and in the thicket, amid the eternal twilight, voices imitate cries for help, promising eternal peace in the stomachs of those who have never known human form.
