I've had my hands on Gakupo for a while now but I just never really had a direction for where I'd use him, so I never did. 😔 I was originally going to use Shin for this song since that was my idea from the moment I first listened to it, but I remembered I had Gakupo so I decided aha. This is his moment. This also why Shin is in the background vocals lol Anyways, so... This cover was inspired by a lot of factors: First of all, I LOVE Paprika, and it was when I had my YouTube on autoplay that I stumbled upon this beautiful song when I was cleaning one day, and saw so many good reviews on it that I decided to watch it. INSTANT HIT. Secondly, I'm... INCREDIBLY angry at the current state of the world with companies pushing AI trying to prove their investments were worth it, but more people have begun openly holding disdain for it and I am no different. I see so many AI ads in my Shorts whenever I do scroll, AI in my search engines, AI summaries, and so many videos on how AI is quite literally reducing our ability to think, stealing so many people's jobs and robbing us of our privacy. And of course the people running our current system is fine with this! They don't want us to question anything! I never knew what to do about this except spread information about it knowing some people will care about what has to be said. Thirdly, I see... so many videos on AI nostalgia??? using this song, likely because of the "uncanny" factor but it makes me so mad!!! and sad!!! It's an insult on the message of the song!!! So I made this cover out of sheer spite for that. Lastly, I also chose to use vocal synths not just because I specialize in it already, but also as a commentary on how vocal synths were once seen as a "replacement" for singers but turned out to be their own niche and were also just another form of instrument and subsequently art form. To call Vocaloid or anything of the sort AI or whatnot is an insult to the art that sprouted from this invention. Even Susumu Hirasawa used LOLA for one of the songs featured in Paprika! All in all, Paprika as a movie and work of art holds a special place in my heart, and the message of the movie clearly is about how governments pretend to care about us all while exploiting our needs via claims of a revolutionary "tool", only to destroy everything we've built until now with it. But in the end, we can use our own humanity and imagination to overcome our false realities with a new true one. So please, start creating!! Use your creations to become more vocal!! The bubble shall burst soon for everything.
