Memories of the 1960s Jazz

My father was a saxophone player in a big band. In the 1950s, he performed at U.S. military camps in Yokosuka. I was too young to remember those days, but years later, I found myself performing at U.S. military camps as well during the 1980s. Looking back, it feels special that both my father and I were able to share a similar musical journey across different generations. This piece is inspired by those memories and by my own image of jazz around the early 1960s—a time whose atmosphere and spirit have always stayed with me. 私の父は、ビッグバンドでサクソフォーンを演奏していました。 1950年代には、横須賀の米軍キャンプで演奏していたそうです。私はまだ幼かったため、その頃の記憶はありません。 その後、時を経て、私自身も1980年代に米軍キャンプで演奏する機会がありました。親子二代にわたって同じ場所で音楽を奏でることができたことは、とても感慨深い思い出です。 この曲には、そんな家族の記憶や、1960年前後のジャズシーンを思い描きながら抱いてきた、私なりのジャズのイメージを込めています。
