NINA JABLONSKI is Professor Emerita of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University, and the author of the books Skin: A Natural History and Living Color, which explore the evolution of human skin and skin pigmentation. Her studies include primate and human evolution, focusing on their adaptations to the environment. For all recorded history, humans have mentioned or depicted clothing. But if we went back far enough in time, we would most certainly observe that our ancestors started off wearing nothing at all! So, how long were we naked and when might things have started to change?
