Dinoblade started as a ten second clip of a spinosaurus swinging a sword
around in its mouth, posted by an animator who was only trying to update
his demo reel. Four years later it's a real game that shifted thirty six
thousand copies on its first day, and the story of how it got there is
better than the game is.
That's not a dig. Dinoblade is good. The animation work is superb, the
combat has genuine weight to it, and the fantasy from that original clip
survives the whole way into your hands, which is the hard part. It's also
rough in places and I've been honest about where.
So this is about Jean Nguyen, a clip he made because he couldn't be
bothered animating something new, and the four years in between.
