The KALIGA FESTIVAL is a Higaonon-inspired Tableau and Street Dancing event which gives tribute to the early settlers of the city- the Higa-onons who used to live right at the mouth of Odiongan River (Gingoog River) where waters and sea meets. It also means "thanksgiving or celebration" by the indigenous people for the year's abundant harvests and blessings in life. The annual Kaliga Festival is done every 23rd of July when Gingoog City became a Chartered City of the Province of Misamis Oriental in 1960 and has been considered the highlight of the celebration.
