Ever feel like you're doing all the heavy lifting in your relationships? Always stepping in. Always solving. Always needed. It might feel like you’re being helpful – but if you’re doing the work for others instead of with them, you’re not helping… you’re rescuing. And when you do that, you feed right into a victim mindset’s hands – whether that person intends it or even realises they’re in victim mode. Victims don’t always know they’re stuck. They may genuinely feel helpless or overwhelmed. And rescuers, without meaning to, reinforce that dynamic by taking over and doing the work for them. It can quickly create an unhealthy co-dependent relationship – where the rescuer ends up drained and frustrated that the other person won’t step up, without seeing the role they’ve played in keeping that person stuck. In this week’s Ask Leah video, I unpack the shift from rescuer to coach, and how that shift shows up in your mindset, your self-talk, and your conversations. Rescuers swoop in. They take over. They carry what isn’t theirs. Their inner voice says: “Poor you. Let me fix it. I’ll sort it out.” Coaches do it differently. They support without rescuing. They teach, they delegate, they empower. They start with questions, not solutions: • “What have you considered already?” • “What do you need from me here?” • “Do you want advice, a sounding board, or space to work it through?” Coaches hold space without taking control. They walk alongside, not in front. Watch the video to learn how to shift out of rescuer mode – and support others in a way that builds strength, not dependence. #askleah #coachingmindset #communication #leadership #humanskills #boundaries #empowerment ___________________________________________________ Is the toughest part of your job the ‘people bit’?
