Married Woman Sues Younger Man She Funded for His Music Dream, Over 3 French Bulldogs
What started as a fight over a few sheets of dog registration papers turned into a courtroom battle over money, rent, and a relationship that both sides now call a mistake.
Amina Thornton, a 46-year-old disabled veteran who runs a trucking company with her husband, says she rented a two-bedroom apartment, turned one room into a music studio, and supported 35-year-old Donnie Alford while he chased his dream of becoming an artist. She also bought three French bulldogs: Crown, Royalty, and Prince, at up to $4,500 each. But when things fell apart, he refused to hand over the registration papers.
Then came the questions.
Alford claimed he helped pay for the dogs, but when the judge asked for a single bank record, he had none. His answer was that it was all cash. The judge told him she no longer believed him.
He fired back with a counterclaim for the dogs, the puppies, and defamation. But the judge found that none of his evidence proved that she wrote or published those claims.
The court ruled that Thornton is the owner of the dogs and ordered the American Kennel Club to be notified so the papers could be reissued in her name. Everything else was dismissed.
The judge’s final words to him: a woman scorned will do nothing short of getting even.
