Aaway Na Jaawey Maare Nahi Janme | Madhup Mudgal at the Mahindra Kabira

"Aaway Na Jaawey, Maare Nahi Janme"" was among the evocative Kabir compositions presented by Madhup Mudgal at the Mahindra Kabira Festival in Varanasi. Performed in his signature Hindustani classical style, the composition reflected Madhup Mudgal's lifelong engagement with the poetry of saint-poets such as Kabir, where musical sophistication is matched by deep philosophical insight. The title expresses one of Kabir's profound spiritual paradoxes: ""One who has truly awakened neither comes nor goes, neither dies nor is born."" The verse points to the eternal nature of the soul, transcending the cycles of birth, death, and worldly attachment. Through a contemplative melodic framework, Mudgal unfolded the poetry with measured improvisation and emotional restraint, allowing every phrase to illuminate Kabir's vision of the formless, timeless reality that lies beyond the ego and the physical world. At the Mahindra Kabira Festival, the performance resonated with the festival's ethos of presenting Kabir's verses through diverse yet authentic musical traditions. Accompanied by subtle classical instrumentation and often complemented by the vocals of Sawani Mudgal, the rendition balanced lyrical clarity with the expressive depth of Hindustani classical music. Rather than treating Kabir's poetry as merely devotional, the performance invited listeners into a reflective journey—one that explored impermanence, self-realization, and the search for the divine within. Set against the serene backdrop of the Ganga in Varanasi, ""Aaway Na Jaawey, Maare Nahi Janme"" became an immersive meditation on Kabir's enduring message that the ultimate truth lies beyond all dualities of life and death."
