Remember: light reaches you almost instantly, but sound takes about three seconds to travel a kilometre, so count from the flash to the bang. Firework colours come from metals that glow when they’re very hot. Fireworks are only for grown-ups to light: watch from well back, keep pets safe indoors, and no sparklers for children under five.
Tutki Asks Why: a science adventure for curious kids, with Tutki the octopus. Happy Bonfire Night and happy Diwali!
