This video presents the SGS VES workflow for processing and interpreting Vertical Electrical Sounding data and transforming apparent-resistivity measurements into an interpretable 1D geoelectric layer model.
The integrated workflow includes:
• VES field-data entry and quality control
• AB/2 and MN/2 spacing management
• Log–log apparent-resistivity curve visualization
• Identification of A, H, K, Q and multilayer curve characteristics
• Interpretation using standard master curves and auxiliary-point charts — traditional abacuses
• Manual and computer-assisted layer estimation
• Calculation of layer resistivity and thickness
• Forward-response and model–data fit evaluation
• Error, curve-matching and solution-quality review
• Layer tables, graphics and report-ready outputs
For groundwater investigations, VES can support the evaluation of:
• Geoelectric layering
• Weathered and fractured zones
• Potential water-bearing intervals
• Depth to resistive basement
• Changes in overburden thickness
• Possible saline or brackish-water effects
• Preliminary borehole-siting assessments
VES does not directly detect groundwater. It evaluates subsurface resistivity contrasts that may be associated with geological and hydrogeological conditions. Final interpretation should therefore be assessed together with local geology, hydrogeological information, borehole data and other geophysical results.
SGS VES combines traditional curve-matching knowledge with modern computational processing, allowing field data, abacus-supported interpretation, layer modeling, quality control and reporting to be managed within one environment.
