GUILT — A Psychological Horror Short Film
GUILT is a psychological and supernatural horror short film about guilt, childhood trauma, and the consequences of a single decision that can never be undone.
I wanted to create a horror film with a stronger emotional core. I wanted to explore how guilt can affect someone and how a single moment from the past can follow a person for the rest of their life. I felt that guilt was a powerful theme to combine with horror, especially when mixed with supernatural elements, disturbing memories, and the fear of facing what you've done.
This film was inspired by “Mom?” by The Noctuary. The atmosphere, emotional weight, and unsettling horror of that work inspired me to develop my own story and explore how similar feelings could be translated into a cinematic short film. However, GUILT tells its own story, with its own characters, events, and interpretation of guilt.
I also wanted to experiment with AI-generated elements in filmmaking. I know AI in film can be a controversial topic, and I understand that not everyone likes it. However, as an independent filmmaker without a huge budget, I have to find creative ways to bring my ideas to life. Apart from the scene featuring the mother, the rest of the film was shot by us. AI was simply one of the tools I used to help realize my vision within the resources I had available.
I'm also aware that the visual quality isn't perfect in every shot. I'm still learning to work with my camera, especially when it comes to ISO, low-light conditions, and image noise. There are definitely things I would approach differently today, but every project is a learning experience, and I know these are areas where I can improve.
I spent a very long time writing the script, filming, editing, and building the sound design. Sound was especially important to me because I believe silence, distorted voices, distant noises, and subtle changes in atmosphere can sometimes create more fear than what we see on screen.
I'm not 100% satisfied with every aspect of the finished film, and there are things I wish I could have done differently. Still, I'm proud to have taken this idea from a script to a finished short film, and I hope you enjoy watching it.
If you have any feedback or ideas for future horror films, feel free to leave them in the comments. I'd love to hear your thoughts and continue improving with every project.
Thank you for watching and supporting independent filmmaking.
