It gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to express their grievances, question those in power, and demand justice. In India, Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has become a significant place for demonstrations on social, political, and human-rights issues. The tradition of peaceful protest in India is closely connected with the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed that truth, non-violence, discipline, and moral courage could become powerful instruments of social change. The Jantar Mantar protests can be understood in the context of this Gandhian tradition. When citizens gather peacefully, raise slogans, hold placards, or sit in a dharna, they use their collective voice to draw attention to an issue. Such demonstrations can remind society that democracy is not limited to voting; it also involves accountability, freedom of expression, and the right to raise concerns peacefully. Mahatma Gandhi's approach to protest was based on Satyagraha, a philosophy often understood as the force of truth or insistence on truth. Gandhi believed that people could resist injustice without hatred or violence. For him, the purpose of protest was not simply to defeat an opponent, but to expose injustice, awaken public conscience, and create pressure for change through moral means. Three principles are particularly relevant to protests at Jantar Mantar: Ahimsa (non-violence): Protesters should avoid physical violence and hatred, even when they strongly disagree with authorities. Satyagraha (insistence on truth): Protest should be grounded in facts, honesty, and a clear demand for justice. Self-discipline and sacrifice: Peaceful protest requires patience, discipline, and a willingness to face difficulties without abandoning one's principles. Gandhi's methods were not passive acceptance. They included marches, boycotts, civil disobedience, and other forms of organised resistance. His philosophy therefore offers a way to challenge authority while recognising the dignity of other people. The recent protests associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have brought renewed attention to the role of youth movements and peaceful dissent in Indian democracy. The movement initially gained prominence in 2026 through protests concerning examination irregularities and the NEET-UG issue, demanding accountability from the Union Education Minister. Later demonstrations focused on voter-list revisions and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. #cjp #protest #jantarmantar #cjpprotest #mahtmagandhi #mahatma #viralvideo #viral #viralshorts #video #delhi
