The 1960s produced some of the most important albums ever recorded—and more than half a century later, the right original copies are becoming serious collector pieces. But there's a huge difference between owning an iconic album and owning the rare pressing collectors actually want.
In this video, we're revealing 10 iconic albums of the 1960s whose most desirable pressings are becoming increasingly valuable—and exactly what you should CHECK before ever selling one.
We're digging into legendary records from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, The Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and other artists who completely transformed popular music during the decade.
Think albums like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band*, *The Beatles (White Album)*, *Are You Experienced*, *The Velvet Underground & Nico*, *The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and the first Led Zeppelin album. Millions of copies may exist—but certain first pressings, mono editions, withdrawn covers, promotional copies and unusual label variations are a completely different story.
That's why the album cover alone tells you almost nothing about value. Collectors inspect matrix and runout numbers, catalog numbers, label designs, pressing plants, country of origin, mono versus stereo versions, cover variations and even tiny printing differences.
Original inserts matter too. Posters, photographs, inner sleeves, stickers and other pieces that disappeared from many surviving copies can significantly increase the desirability of a complete example. Condition can make an enormous difference as well.
So before you sell an old Beatles, Hendrix, Dylan or Pink Floyd record because you've seen the same album sitting in a bargain bin, identify the exact pressing you own. Two copies that look virtually identical can belong to completely different levels of the collector market.
Stay until the end for the 1960s album we'd NEVER casually sell—and the tiny identifying detail that could reveal you're holding an exceptionally rare pressing.
